The theme for this year’s ball, celebrating 678 years since Queen’s was founded, will be ‘Circus 678’. Circus 678 will be a totally immersive experience, as you physically wander through the modern world of circus, into its future; a journey through time, reality and utopia. The ball is a celebration of the vibrancy of contemporary youth culture, whilst nodding to the issues which we face daily as we make our way through this challenging world of ever-increasing information. The current outlook on the future tends to be overwhelmingly bleak: we aim to take the problems facing us and imbue them with fun, laughter and debauchery, by using the age-old concept of circus to explore the potential future that lies ahead of us all.
This year, the Queen’s Ball Committee have aimed to provide one of the most exciting and contemporary entertainment schedules of any in Oxford. The main stage, located in Back Quad, will be hosting two headline acts, another incredible DJ, and a silent disco, which will end at 5am.
Our main headline act will be Everything Everything, a musical synthesis which bring together art-pop, R’n’B, Afrobeat, synth and more into a frenetic and maximalist soundscape. So far, Everything Everything have produced four albums, each of which has been widely acclaimed. In 2018 alone, their work was nominated for Best Album, Best Song Musically & Lyrically (the Ivor Novello Awards), and for a Mercury Prize. Previous awards include UK Single of the Year in 2014, being named one of NME’s top 50 tracks of 2012, and winning The Times Breakthrough Award in 2011.
A number of other stages located throughout the venue will host some lighter entertainment, including local Oxford bands and musicians, comedy and more. There will also be a host of performers, to create an immersive atmosphere so that you truly feel as if you have entered a carnival of the future.

The Food & Drink will take on the nomadic spirit of the travelling circus. With the advent of the world's first transcontinental railroad in 1869, the Circus was able to travel to the unpopulated interior regions otherwise inaccessible and delight in their unknown culinary cultures. As you move from location to location, expect this flare of transcontinental flavour and unfamiliar ingredients. Wildly new possibilities await you.
